#usguys “we are more powerful than we know”

Written with Kenny’s permission and consent…

At 11:46 this morning received a series of DM’s from an #usguys Tribe member Kenny.  To help protect his family’s privacy am not sharing his Twitter Handle.  Yes, I do have his permission to write this note…

He lost a relative.  No wait.  His family member was killed in Kingston Jamaica.  Kenny shared this news to me whilst apologizing for  not submitting a Toast for the #usguys Philly meetup…  His family does not have many more details.  Kenny will share them once they do.  The family is flying down from New York tomorrow.  What he also said was this:

“You guys are great. Got up today logged in and got a lift straight away from all the positivity.  Thank everyone for me.”

So I posted 3 Tweets to the Steam and asked for a Moment of Respect.  Ending with “Please keep Kenny and his family in your thoughts and prayers. #usguys — moment of RESPECT”.  Variations of that were ReTweeted many times over the day in support of Kenny.  Received many DMs from concerned people about what was going on and how was Kenny and his family.  All of this taught me something important.

We are more powerful than we know…

Kenny sent me a few more DMs.  He was overwhelmed by the support of his “tribe” and the Tweets he was getting from everyone.  In one of the DMs he said:

@Josepf  Man you made me cry. I looked at my stream and had to take a break. Thank you.

This brought a tear to my eyes.  We, as a Tribe, friends on Twitter, demonstrated care, love, and support for one of our own.  We are more powerful than we know. Small acts demonstrate care.  Small acts can up lift someone’s feelings.  Small acts can mean the difference between total despair and rays of hope.   This is Relationship Media.  We are people.  Let’s all keep in mind the power of small acts.

Stop following me, Please.

Hello Lewis,

You were the winner of the Ben Spark giveaway as he announced today here: http://www.benspark.com/winner-of-the-social-media-marketing-las-vegas-ticket.html

And that ticket can be yours!  Click the above BenSpark.com Photo or quoted link for more info on them and Lewis’ win!  Click the SM Marketing Banner above for a link to the Event!

The ticket is free!  To a good home.  Write some interesting or compelling reason why he should give it to you.  He ideally wants someone who might otherwise not be able to afford it.  However, a good story also wins!  You have to be able to get yourself to Vegas.  (Do I hear Road Trip??? )

Submit a comment below and Lewis will review.  Ideally someone is picked before 6 PM today (Eastern) and we’ll shoot you off the instructions. You do not have to be part of the #UsGuys Tribe on Twitter to win, but it cannot hurt!

Why I love @Hashable (and you will too)

Are you using 400 year old Business Cards and antiquated Contact Management systems in the exponentially growing Social Media world? Time to make technology work for your Relationships! Still in BETA, Hashable.com is worth checking out with major changes coming in the very near term future.

Hashable is about relationships

Drop Social Media. Make it Relationship Media. What we have here are relationships, of some sort, between people.  Mike Yavonditte and Emily Hickey are great people.  Having met them I went from being a fan of @Hashable to a firm supporter of “them”. This view is shared by many I’ve spoken with (literally, & Skype). Mike reaches out, engages people, DMs them, and follows up. He is what would author Daniel Goleman would call Emotionally Intelligent.  My relationship with Mike and Emily:

Does Social Media Literally pay off?

Text 244326 with PhxStrat to play in this Social Medial Experiment. Love a local business gives small business owners and interesting Social Media Marketing tool.

Ok, Social Experiment.  I stumbled across Love a Local Business late in the game!  This is a great marketing tool from Intuit (Quickbooks).  Local businesses register and compete for grants up to $30,000.  They use Social Media to promote themselves and solicit  feedback as to why people love them!

It’s fun with  payoff!  :-)   Being a slightly competitive type I decided to enter the fray even though I have no realistic chance of winning because of time constraints.  There are a couple of different ways to vote.  First is through a Map Interface (click through box below) where you find and click on a Business local to you to vote.  The interface is a bit clumsy and awkward.  I was going to vote for a great local business that I visit traveling but the map brought me to my own backyard (scary).

Next is the SMS interface. Pretty simple. You text PhxStrat to 244326 — they ask you for your name, any ole name will do; and then why you love the business! Try it! If you read my posts you already know how fun, creative, inciteful, oops, insightful I am :-) Or read the excerpt of my One Pager (below) for some ideas. You can keep it short. Read more »
